N. Srinivasan is likely to return to the International Cricket Council (ICC) just 10 months after he was replaced as the chairman of the global cricket governing body. The ex-Board of Control for Cricket in India president has become one of the front-runners to being the board’s representative on the ICC’s Board of Directors.

Reportedly both BCCI president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke has given their nod for Srinivasan’s nomination. Shirke is also set to continue as the secretary after the 87th Annual General Meeting scheduled for Tuesday.

Srinivasan has not had the best of relationships with the board officials in recent years and so the move might be a surprise but it proves that in the BCCI there can be no permanent friends or enemies.

According to the Hindu, Shirke visited Chennai on September 4 to have discussions on the issue. Both Shirke and Srinivasan spoke on the latter’s possible nomination and reportedly he has agreed to it.Srinivasan however, won’t be attending the AGM on Tuesday as his trusted aide K.S. Viswanathan will be representing the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

If the 71-year-old is appointed he will for the second time in two years become BCCI’s face at the ICC despite not being at the helm of the BCCI.

Last year in March he was replaced by Jagmohan Dalmiya as the BCCI president after the court prevented him from contesting the elections. But he was still the BCCI boss. In November 2015 he was finally replaced as Shashank Manohar here took over as the BCCI president.

The court drama was triggered by Srinivasan’s unwillingness to act against his family owned franchise which was involved in the 2013 IPL corruption scandal.

Shirke had then resigned as treasurer of the BCCI protesting against Srinivasan’s lack of action.Speaking to The Hindu, Viswanathan said, “The TNCA will abide by whatever the BCCI decides. The TNCA is a loyal member of the BCCI. If there is a timeline given by the Lodha Committee regarding an issue, the TNCA will refer it back to the BCCI’s legal co”
