N Srinivasan seeks permission to return as BCCI President, asks SC to not ban CSK

ICC Chairman and the BCCI President-in-exile N. Srinivasan has sought Supreme Court’s approval to return to the head post of the Indian board, reports NDTV. As he was cleared by the Mudgal Committee report from any corrupt practices, the 69-year-old feels there is no roadblock that stops him from returning to power.

"Since the investigation by the panel is over and there is nothing incriminating against me, I must be allowed to take over as BCCI president," Srinivasan said.

Despite him being cleared, the Chennai Super Kings franchise, owned by Srinivasan’s India Cements face a possible suspension as Gurunath Meiyappan, Srinivasan’s son-in-law and former Team Principal of the franchise has been accused of betting.

It is learnt that Srinivasan’s lawyers have requested the Supreme Court to not ban CSK from IPL as there is nothing against the franchise, pointing to the accusation that it brought disrepute with respect to a match involving Rajasthan Royals has not been proved.

India Cements said: "Cancellation of CSK franchise will result in serious consequences as Chennai is the most popular team in IPL and its players enjoy huge popularity."

The franchise has been holding on to the claims that Meiyappan is not one among them. They claim that he was neither a shareholder nor a director or in any way associated with the team.

"As per IPL norms disfranchising can be done only if the company of the franchise or the owner of the franchise violates relevant clauses," they added.

It has also been said that the accused man has not drawn any salary or compensation from CSK.

However, Mudgal report confirms him as a CSK official and his involvement in betting. Srinivasan’s side has also stated that any accusation against him and four others, claiming not to have taken appropriate action against a particular player, are incorrect. They claim that the player is not in any means associated with IPL, fixing or any corrupt practice.
