N. Srinivasan wishes Shashank Manohar on ICC top post

N Srinivasan speaks to the media on being elected to the ICC President’s post in 2014

Following the Annual General Meeting, a conclusion that was drawn was that N. Srinivasan would be sacked as the ICC Chairman. The BCCI was not in contact with the former ICC Chairman for a while and it was understood that his tenure as the Chairperson would end soon. With Shashank Manohar taking up the new post, former ICC Chairman cordially congratulated the new Chairman.

Srinivasan believes that Shashank Manohar is the right man for the job and has no doubt on his abilities, he wished him all the best for the prestigious post.

"It is the BCCI president's prerogative who he wants to send to ICC. Shashank Manohar feels he is the right man for the job and I have absolutely no qualms about it. I wish Mr Manohar all the best for the ICC chairman's post," Srinivasan told TOI.

When asked about Diwali preparations and if it was because of the events that took place between him and BCCI that he would not celebrate the festival, Srinivasan said, “Nothing of the sort. There has been a death in the family and that's the reason why we won't be celebrating. You should understand that for me there is life beyond cricket”

Cricket has always been an interest and will remain so: Srinivasan

The former ICC Chairman feels that he has life beyond cricket, he is a businessman currently holding the position of Managing Director at India Cements. Now that he is away from cricket, he thinks he can focus more on his business and is as enthusiastic about it as he was for cricket.

He said, "I run a big business and it consumes a lot of time. Cricket for me has always been an interest and will remain so.”

Under the reign of Srinivasan, BCCI’s earning went up due the introduction of the new financial model. Srinivasan’s innings at ICC was a fruitful one, according to what he believes. With the introduction of new reforms like the financial model and the new media rights, Srinivasan was satisfied with his work.

“I had a fruitful innings at the ICC. The new financial models, the new media rights -these were brought into place when I was in charge. I have always believed in doing the job that I have at hand and I am satisfied with my contribution.” Srinivasan told TOI.

According to Srinivasan’s associates, the work that he has done will benefit BCCI for a long time, but Srinivasan doesn’t like to take much credit of it and says that it was his job. He said, “It's fine, I was doing a job. You know, I am an avid golfer and now that I have some time for myself, I will work on my golf, it needs to get better,"

With much speculation over his TNCA position, there are chances that the BCCI may come around him to snatch his position away. When asked about any such rumours, he said, “Is it? As far as I am concerned, I will be associated with TNCA and work for the betterment of the game."

We know that it’s really tough to make a comeback in BCCI, but the people who have been associated with Srinivasan say that he will look to grab any opportunity that comes by, though the 70-year-old has left his future open-ended. He finally added, “Why look so far ahead? For now let's enjoy Diwali.”
