South Africa won by 67 runs to stay alive in the tournament.

After defeats in their first game, Pakistan and South Africa faced each other in a do-or-die game on 10th June 2013, at Edgbaston. Defeat would all but end the losing team’s campaign while the winner would live to fight another day. Proteas skipper AB de Villiers won the toss and chose to bat. The South Africans got off to a good start, with their openers Hashim Amla and Colin Ingram putting up a 50 run stand. Ingram left the crease after scoring 20 but Amla went on to score 81 runs. But they couldn’t build effective partnerships as the South African batsmen lost their wickets cheaply; there were four run outs in all. And they could only manage 234/9 in 50 overs.

Pakistan top order too, collapsed courtesy debutant Chris Morris. Pakistan scored at very low run rate as they could manage only 18 runs in first 10 overs as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Misbah Ul Haq’s 55 couldn’t win another game for Pakistan and they were bundled for 167 runs with Ryan McLaren taking 4 for 19. South Africa won the match by 67 runs.
