PCB advises Mohammad Amir to avoid media interactions

Banned left-arm Pakistani fast bowler, Mohammad Amir has been advised by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to avoid interacting with media since he is still serving a five year ban for spot fixing from the ICC. PCB has been cautious as any controversial remark by Amir could land him into trouble.

He was due to appear on a Pakistani private news channel but it was cancelled at the last momemt.

A reliable source has said that PCB told him not to give any interviews in the press or appear in the electronic media. The source said, "The board has pointed out he should curtail his media interaction since he is still serving a five-year ban for spot-fixing and any slip of tongue or controversial comments could land him into trouble.”

Amir, along with fellow fast bowler Mohammed Asif and captain Salman Butt, are banned by ICC from all cricket over the spot fixing charges. The southpaw was originally due to return in September but has been given special permission by the ICC to play domestic cricket.

The 23-year-old has taken 22 wickets in four matches for his team Omar Associates when he pulled a hamstring and could only bowl just 10 overs against Karachi Port Trust during the final of the Grade-2 Championship on Monday at the national stadium in Karachi.

Amir, who has taken 51 wickets in 14 Tests, said he is working hard on his game to impress the selectors.

“My ICC ban [from international matches] will be over on September 2, then it depends upon the board – how they assess my fitness and performance,” he said. “I think I will prove myself in grade two and Super T20 and then it depends upon the selectors.”
