Player draft for Bangladesh Premier League 2016 on September 30

Shahid Afridi played for Sylhet Super Stars in the Bangladesh Premier League

The player draft for the fourth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League will be held at the end of this month. As stated by the league’s governing council, the tournament’s start has been brought forward by two days, and will begin on November 4.

Last year, franchises claimed their choice of players with a lottery system deciding who would choose first. This time, however, the BCB governing council has not divulged details of the system in place for the player draft. A separate lottery was kept last time to distribute the icon players equally among the franchises.

In the previous editions of the league, there were six teams in contention for the trophy. This time, there will be a total of seven teams in the competition, with Khulna and Rajarshi returning to the fold. The Sylhet Super Stars won’t be participating this season, due to a franchise agreement breach, as stated by the BCB officials.

The names of the owners of the two new franchises will be revealed by the BCB governing council later. The BCB had earlier mentioned that Gemcom Group and Mango Entertainment had shown special interest in acquiring the franchises. The names are expected to be announced after the Eid break.

Apart from Khulna and Rajarshi, the other teams are Comilla Victorians, Barisal Bulls, Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Dynamites and Chittagong Vikings.
