Former Indian captain Rahul Dravid has come out strongly in support of batsman Virat Kohli after the Indian Test captain was criticised for failing in the semi-final of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup against Australia.

Speaking at an event in Melbourne, Dravid reminded people that Kohli was in sensational form during the Test series against Australia three months ago. He further added that he cannot think of any Indian batsman who played as well as Kohli did in Australia.

"We have short memory. He did play his absolute best in the Test matches. In fact, he was sensational," Dravid said.

"I cannot think of an Indian batsman who had come to Australia and played as well as Virat Kohli in the Test matches. We did see his absolute best. Unfortunately, we didn't see it the other night (semifinal match). But that's part and parcel of the sports."

The 42-year-old also said that India shouldn’t too disappointed by the semi-final loss as Australia looked a much stronger team over the last few months.

"Realistically, India didn't beat Australia at all during these four months at any Test matches and tri-series and New Zealand did play some fantastic cricket at home.

"I think the two best teams made to finals. India did as well as they could and it was quite difficult to get to the semifinals. They were a young team and with these kind of conditions, it was going to be difficult to get over the Australian hurdle," he added.
