Kolkata, April 21 (IANS) Rahul Ghosh, the young cricketer who was hospitalised on Tuesday following a head injury, was deeply saddened by the passing away of fellow cricketer Ankit Keshri, with whom he had played a match.

Keshri died on Monday in the same hospital, where Ghosh is now admitted.

"Rahul and Ankit played together in a league in Chinsurah. Rahul knew him well. He was deeply saddened at the news yesterday (Monday). He did not talk much and went to sleep early after having dinner and today this happened," his aunt Kajori Ghosh told reporters on Tuesday.

Rahul, now a law student, had taken up cricket when he was three and a half years old and is known as a reticent boy.

"He mostly kept to himself. We have always encouraged him to play the game ever since he was three and a half years old," she said.

Ghosh said he was a "brilliant" student and an "obedient" son.

Keshri, a former Bengal under-19 cricket captain, died on Monday following the head injury he picked up in a collision with fielder Sourav Mondal while taking a catch during a local knockout tournament on Friday.
