Ranji Trophy Day 2 Round-Up: Dinda's seven wickets sink Odisha; Jharkhand beat Himachal Pradesh

Dinda bowled a fiery spell where he picked seven wickets

Bengal outplayed Odisha in a rather one-sided affair and won the match by 133 runs. It took only two days for the Bengal team to defeat their neighbours, thanks to some brilliant bowling performance from Ashok Dinda who picked 7 wickets in the second innings to bowl out the opposition for just 37 runs.

Bengal started the day at 23 for no loss, but on the pitch where 20 wickets fell on the first day, another 20 wickets fell on the second. Bengal were all-out for 135 runs and handed Odisha a target of 171 runs. Dinda combined with Pragyan Ojha to pluck all 10 Odisha wickets within 20 overs and with only 37 runs on the board.

Brief Score: Bengal 142 and 135 (Mohanty 16-5) beat Odisha 107 and 37 (Dinda 19-7, Ojha 14-3) in Kalyani.

Karnataka continued their good start with the bat to amass 542 runs in the first innings. After Robin Uthappa and Mayank Agarwal struck centuries on the first day, Manish Pandey and captain Vinay Kumar scored half-centuries each to ensure that their team finish with a massive total in the first inning. Pandey scored 81 runs and Vinay scored 50. Sangwan and Saini picked 3-wickets each for Delhi.

Gautam Gambhir and Unmukt Chand opened the batting for Delhi and added 47 runs for the first wicket. The latter lost his wicket to Sreenath Arvind and Delhi finished the day with a total of 60 runs for the loss of one wicket.

Rajasthan started the second day at 75 for 1 and looked set for a big score, however, Mohit Sharma’s five-wicket haul stopped them from building a huge lead over Haryana. Menaria was the highest scorer for the Rajasthan team with 47 runs.

Two more batsmen, Puneet Yadav and Dobal reached the 40’s but failed to register a half-century. They lost all their wickets with 279 runs on the board. Haryana openers managed to play out the whole day and managed 62 runs without the loss of any wicket.

Brief Score: Haryana 112 and 62 for 0 (Saini 42*) vs Rajasthan 279 all-out (Menaria 47, Mohit Sharma 5-56) in Lahli.

Punjab only managed to add 24 runs to their tally of 248 for 8 on the first day. Khera who was unbeaten at 73 on the previous day only managed to add one run to his score and as a result, his team scored a total of 272 runs. Praveen Kumar got 4 wickets for the UP side.

On the other hand, Uttar Pradesh ended the day with a total of 205 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. Suresh Raina failed once again as his stumps were outrooted by Siddharth Kaul, the left-hander didn’t even manage a single run.

Meanwhile, the match between Tamil Nadu and Gujarat did not start on the second day as well due to rain.

Goa 552 for 5 declared (Desai 106, Asnodkar 232, Kamat 105) vs Jammu and Kashmir 43 for 2 in Jammu.

Hyderabad 548 for 5 declared (Vihari 219) vs Tripura 13 for 1 in Hyderabad.
