Ranji Trophy Round-Up Day 1: Mohammed Kaif's Andhra collapse to 80 all out; Mithun Manhas scores first ton for Jammu-Kashmir

Delhi reject Mithun Manhas scored his first ton for Jammu and Kashmir

On Day 1 of another round of Ranji Trophy matches, Former Delhi batsman Mithun Manhas scored his first ton playing for Jammu-Kashmir in the Group C match against Hyderabad. He was finally dismissed for 150, as the visitors finished the day at a commanding score of 331/4 at stumps in Hyderabad. Jammu-Kashmir have had a decent tournament so far this season, and have bounced back after losing a couple of matches in the beginning.

The biggest surprise of the day was the batting collapse of Mohammed Kaif led-Andhra side who were cheaply folded for just 80 runs against Punjab in the Group B encounter in Patiala. Andhra who are currently third on the points table, struggled on a turning track as eight of their batsman reached single digit scores.

Gurkeerat Singh was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab, with 4 wickets, while Rajwinder Singh, S. Kaul and Sarabjit Ladda picked up 2 wickets each. Punjab are missing the services of Yuvraj Singh, as the southpaw is in Jalandhar to attend Harbhajan Singh’s wedding.

In reply, Punjab too struggled to score runs as they finished the day at 128/7, mainly due to half century from Jiwanjot Singh, as 17 wickets fell in the day. Meanwhile, in a Group A match between Rajasthan and defending champions Karnataka played in Jaipur, the hosts fought back well to restrict the visitors to 270/8 at stumps.

Mayank Agarwal was the top-scorer for Karnataka with 66 runs, while R Samarth was dismissed for 65. Aniket Choudhary was the pick of the bowlers for Rajasthan as he snarled 3 wickets and restricted the Karnataka batsman.

In Lahli, Bengal were reduced to a modest first innings total, pegged back by Haryana bowlers. The biggest cheer on the day from that venue, however, was when Virender Sehwag turned his arm over to bowl 6 overs.
