Ranji Trophy Round 8, Day 4 Round-Up: Defending champions Karnataka settle for draw; Rajasthan crush Haryana

Karnataka gained three points on account of their first-innings lead

Defending champions of the Ranji trophy, Karnataka had to settle for a draw, after Delhi, who were following on, finished at 290/2 in their second innings. Tons from Dhruv Shorey and Nitish Rana ensured the visitors did not repeat their first innings performance.

Karnataka, who enjoyed the advantage, going into day four, were completely outplayed by Delhi, who denied any more joy for the hosts, as they finally had to settle for a draw. The hosts earned 3 points because of their first-innings lead and look comfortable to reach the next stage of the tournament.

Score: Delhi 301 (Gambhir 75, Manan 56, Rawal 54) and 290/2 (Shorey 107*, Rana 132*) drew with Karnataka 542 (Uthappa 148, Agarwal 118, Pandey 81).

Meanwhile, Rajasthan comprehensively beat Haryana, captained by Virender Sehwag, by nine wickets, in their Group A match in Lahli. The visitors easily overhauled the low target of 158, with 9 wickets in hand.

Score: Rajasthan 279 (M Sharma 5-56) and 161/1 (Puneet Yadav 107*) beat Haryana 112 (Pankaj 4-10, Bhatia 3-41) and 324 (Saini 146, Pankaj 5-85) by nine wickets.

Tripura fought back well in the second innings, after being asked to follow-on by Hyderabad, and finished at 294/5 in their second outing. Parvinder Singh’s unbeaten knock of 104* ensured Tripura did not succumb to an innings defeat.

Score: Tripura 237 (A Das 73, Murasingh 51, Ravi Kiran 3-45, Milind 3-50) and 294/5 (Parvinder 104*) drew with Hyderabad 548 for 5 decl. (Vihari 219, Sandeep 93).

Mithun Manhas led Jammu & Kashmir’s fightback against Goa, with a scintillating century, to hand the hosts a draw. J & K scored 497, in reply to Goa’s first innings score of 552/5. But Goa earned 3 valuable points on account of their first innings lead.

Score: Goa 552/5 dec. (Asnodkar 232, Desai 106, Kamat 105) and 79/1 drew with J&K 497(ID Singh 115, Mahas 135, Jakatiu 4-102, RR Singh 4-118).
