Ricky Ponting scored a brilliant century on his debut for Surrey as the Surrey Lions finished in front on the third day of their match against Derbyshire.

The 38-year-old former Australian captain pulled Wes Durston away for his 13th four to equal Sachin Tendulkar‘s tally of 81 first-class hundreds. Sir Jack Hobbs has the highest number of centuries to his name in first-class cricket, having scored 199 first-class tons.

Ricky Ponting joined Surrey after retiring from the international cricket and is expected to stay there for a brief spell.

Arun Harinath scored his third first-class century in style after he lofted Durston for a six straight over his head and the 26-year-old batsman went on to score a caree-best of 154.

However, it’s hard to see any of the two sides securing a victory on the final day as Surrey are still trailing by 90 runs.
