Robin Uthappa has a chance of making it to the 15-man World Cup squad

Robin Uthappa hopes he can make the final 15-man squad for the Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

With a rich run of form in the Ranji Trophy, Uthappa hopes that is enough to convince the selectors to select him for the upcoming tournament.

The deadline of submitting the shortlisted squad to the ICC is set for January 7.

Uthappa, who is one of the four-wicket keeping-batsmen in the 30-man shortlist, is keeping his fingers crossed.

“I have the ability to play international cricket for a long time”

"I hope so," Uthappa said when asked whether his form in the Ranji Trophy games were enough for a ticket to the mega event.

The 29-year-old said, "I would like to stay in the present and make sure I fulfil my role in the (Karnataka) team. I have set certain standards for myself and I want to live up to those standards. I feel have the ability to play international cricket for a long time and that is how I base my standards on."

Uthappa's recent success has come as an opener and in February he was recalled to play in his first ODI in six years. Most recently, he was picked for the final two ODIs against Sri Lanka in November.

“Bouncy tracks in Australia suit my game”

Uthappa said he loves playing in the island of Australia and he is open to performing any role for the national side.

"When you are playing for the country, you don't get the liberty of choosing your batting position. It is just an honour to playing for your country. I am equipped to perform any role offered to me.

"Hopefully I will get the opportunity. I have always enjoyed plank in Australia. I like bouncy tracks, it suits my game," said Uthappa.
