Rohit Sharma scored the highest score in ODI history when he blasted 264 from 173 balls against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday. In the process, he became the first man to score two double centuries in ODI cricket and the first one to hit a 250+ score. This was the fourth time that a batsman has scored a double century in limited overs internationals.

Sharma received a reprieve when he was dropped on 4 by Thisara Perera. From there, there was no looking back for the Mumbaikar as he took apart the Sri Lankan bowling and hit 33 fours and 9 sixes en route to a magnificent double century.

In a funny coincidence, just like in Bangalore last year where he had scored his first 200+ score in ODI cricket, Sharma again was involved in a run out with Virat Kohli, which saw the stand-in Indian captain depart to the pavilion on 66.

This is the second highest List A score of all time, with Rohit falling short of Ali Brown’s record of 268 by just 4 runs.

All three batsmen to have scored double hundreds in LOI cricket have been Indian, with all four occurrences occurring in India.
