Rohit Sharma could not handle a toe-crushing yorker from Mohammad Amir

In a worrying development for the Indian team, opening batsman Rohit Sharma decided to skip the practice session ahead of tomorrow’s Asia Cup clash against Sri Lanka. Cricket Country reported that the 28-year old opted to rest in his hotel room indicating that he could possibly miss out on the next encounter.

With the World T20 starting in March, the team management is highly unlikely to risk aggravating the toe injury that Rohit sustained during India’s contest against arch-rivals Pakistan on Saturday. Left-arm speedster Mohammad Amir swung one at pace to smash into the boots of the Mumbai batsman.

Earlier, Rohit had begun India’s campaign with a match-winning knock against Bangladesh. His form and fitness is crucial for the remainder of the season which consists of only T20 cricket.

Parthiv Patel might partner Rahane at the top

However, in a more pleasant news for the Indians, Shikhar Dhawan trained purposefully which could mean that he had recovered sufficiently from the niggle which kept him out of the match against Pakistan. The Delhi dasher got some fielding practice before coming out to bat under fading lights at the BCB Academy in Mirpur.

Not surprisingly, reserve wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel batted quite early in the nets following the likes of Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. He could be in the fray to partner Rahane at the top against Sri Lanka.

Skipper MS Dhoni quelled all doubts about his fitness by batting intently in the session. He had played through the first 2 games with a back spasm. But, the fact that he batted could add to the positive vibes in the camp.

Once the practice session was done and dusted, Dhoni, Kohli, Yuvraj Singh were spotted having a laugh alongside Team Director Ravi Shastri. In a event at the Indian High Commissioner’s residence at Dhaka, Kohli got everyone going with his delightful rendition of ‘Jo wada kiya woh nibhaana padegaa’. Raina also sung a hit number from ‘Parinda’ which left the onlookers bemused.
