Sachin Tendulkar – The last laugh

The magic of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar is spread over the whole world. It was really very thrilling to note the massive coverage recently given to him by the media worldwide. The other heartening factor was that a country like USA, where baseball is the prime game, had given due weightage to the retirement of Sachin Tendulkar.

This has been perhaps one of the most sought after retirement decision in India and abroad in recent times. Though the British Prime Minister David Cameron had taken a note of this event, but it was noticed that until day before yesterday, the British media had not given priority to this historical event. Though Sachin’s record breaking achievements are so much that he does not rely on anyone for popularity, but still the entire British media – right from the BBC to the leading newspapers – have finally recognized the incredible contribution of Sachin Tendulkar for the promotion of the game worldwide.

It was so nice to see that the Sri Lankan government had sent a special trophy exclusively made for Sachin, handed over to him during the presentation ceremony of the second test. Apart from this, many legendary sportspersons, right from Brian Lara to Michael Schumacher and Roger Federer have also given their best wishes and have shown respect for Sachin Tendulkar.

I believe that even after retiring, Sachin Tendulkar has engraved India’s name in the whole world. He had already made tons of records earned through sweat and toil during this prolonged journey spanning over 24 years. But more importantly he has been so humble, submissive, polite, and his game has been so selfless that he had become the hearthrob of entire nation. He is a role model for millions of youngsters. He has made the whole world realize that what a gentleman is.

Many newspapers have written that he delivered a speech which seemed perfect despite the overwhelming emotions surrounding it. The Guardian newspaper has highlighted that Sachin became a live example for a generation of cricketers – to show them as to how to conduct themselves. BBC has also applauded the master for his wonderful service to Indian cricket.

It is really a matter of pride for every fan of the game that his farewell has been at par with his glorious cricketing career. We will miss you a lot, Sir. Tons of gratitude for everything you have done for the nation and the sport.
