Sachin Tendulkar urges J&K to not get carried away after historic win over Mumbai

Sachin Tendulkar with the J&K Ranji Trophy team

Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar praised Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) for their stunning win over Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy on Wednesday. Chasing a target of 237 in the fourth innings, J&K beat the 40-time Ranji Trophy champions by four wickets to script a historic win at the Wankhede Stadium.

Tendulkar, however, cautioned the young side from getting carried away and told them to keep the winning momentum going.

"You should not get carried away. You should keep the momentum. It's a great victory and a big achievement," the 41-year-old told the J&K players after their win.

Tendulkar’s last appearance in the Ranji Trophy was against Haryana at Lahli last year, where he scored an unbeaten 79 to help his side chase down a target of 240 in the fourth innings.

In the 80-year history of the Ranji Trophy, this was the first meeting between the two teams. Mumbai were without the services of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane, both of whom are part of the Indian contingent for the Test series Down Under and experienced seamer Zaheer Khan was also missing from the Mumbai line-up.

Ram Dayal was the star for J&K with the ball, picking up a five-wicket haul in Mumbai’s second innings. Shubham Khajuria starred with the bat in both innings for the visitors, amassing a century in the first innings and a half century in the second.

From Mumbai’s perspective, Suryakumar Yadav was the only bright spot with the bat, scoring a half-century in the first innings and a hundred in the second.
