Sachin Tendulkar feels MS Dhoni is the best judge as far as his retirement is concerned

Among the most debated issues in Indian cricket in the last year or so has been the limited-overs future of MS Dhoni , first as a captain of the side and then as a player in the Indian team.

A lot of former players have expressed a mixed opinion on the 35-year-old’s future as an India player, even though the man himself seems unfazed by all the talk surrounding his career in coloured clothing.

Joining the chorus of folks, who have suggested that Dhoni be left alone while taking a call about his retirement is batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar. The 43-year-old retired legend has said that if a player is physically and mentally fit to compete, then he should be allowed to do so and added that the matters had to be left to him.

“ AIt (his performance) shouldn't be related to age. I still remember e were articles that T20 that there were articles that T20 cricket is meant for youngsters, which is all wrong. I mean, Brad Hogg is playing at 44. It's wrong to say that I scored a double hundred in ODIs at 38. Fitness is all that matters. If a player is physically fit, mentally in a state of mind to play for India, let that be his choice. He knows his mind and body better than anyone else. He's the best judge. Leave the matters to him,” Tendulkar told Times of India in an interview.

Anil Kumble will give his best at all times: Tendulkar

Tendulkar was part of the Cricket Advisory Committee that picked Anil Kumble as the coach of the national side in June and speaking about his appointment, he said no one during his time as a player competed as hard as Kumble did and was confident that he would imbibe the same qualities as a coach as well on the current group of players.

“Having played, practised, sharing the dressing room with Anil, I know that he'll not leave a single stone unturned. He'll give his best at all times. He's played his game the hard way, so he'll get the players to have the same attitude,” he said.

The Indian team are next scheduled to play in Tendulkar’s hometown of Mumbai and when asked if he would be present at the venue to watch the team play, he replied stating he might come some time in between to watch the action.

“I'm travelling around that time, so I'm not sure. I might come in between the Test to watch a bit of action. I'm happy, though, that the MCA has arranged tickets for some under privileged children from Apnalaya, an NGO and a cause which I and Anjali (his wife) have been supporting for the last 20 years,” he said.
