Congess’s search for a suitable candidate who could match BJP’s Narendra Modi’s stature in Varanasi and could compete him in Lok Sabha elections landed it on the doors of legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, says a report in Times of India.

According to the report, Congress tried to convince Tendulkar to contest against Modi, but he rejected the offer. Senior Congressman Rajiv Shukla was given the responsibility to convince the 40-year-old cricket sensation, but apparently Rajiv Shukla failed to convince him.

After retiring from all cricket last year, Sachin Tendulkar was named as Rajya Sabha member by Congress.
