Shahid Afridi to conduct a charity T20 and raise funds for emigrants

Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi revealed that he is hoping to conduct a Twenty20 match, with a side captained by former national captain Imran Khan and another by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, to raise funds for close to 470,000 emigrants whose lifestyles have been disrupted by military activities going on in the northwest.

Afridi said: "I am in talks with the authorities and will soon announce a Twenty20 match in Lahore to raise funds. I wish Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to captain one side and Imran Khan lead the other side because these two can attract more crowds and then we can raise a huge fund."

Imran Khan, a former World Cup winning captain and one of the best all-rounders the cricketing world has ever seen, is now the leader of Tehrik-e-Insaaf, a Pakistan political party, and a Member of Parliament.

The big hitting all-rounder, who has represented Pakistan in 378 ODIs, 74 T20Is and 27 Tests, said: “I think if they come for the match it will become a big occasion and we can help our own people through the funds, so I would appeal both to come and join the cause."

The 34-year-old, referring to Imran’s philanthropic works, which includes the country’s first and only cancer hospital founded back in 1991, as the biggest inspiration, said: “Imran set an example for all of us.”
