Shahid Afridi not to come out of ODI retirement, to concentrate on T20s only

Shahid Afridi

Shahid “Boom Boom” Afridi has made it clear that he will not be making a return to Pakistan’s ODI team. Pakistan’s most prolific all rounder retired from ODIs after the World Cup, having appeared in 398 games. With the Pakistani team coming under strong criticism after a series defeat against Bangladesh, Afridi said that the young crop of players need some time to adjust in the national side.

“My decision is final. We have to understand that the new players will take time to adjust and settle down and we have to give them proper time for this," Afridi said.

The 35-year-old all-rounder has represented Pakistan in record 77 Twenty20 Internationals and is currently the captain of the T20 side.

He said that he is entirely focused towards building a strong team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in India in 2016.

“We have some exciting players in our T20 squad and my aim as captain now is to build up a strong outfit," he said.

Afridi will be joining the team to play a lone T20 international against Bangladesh.

"That we lost the one-day series to Bangladesh will not make a difference to us and we want to win this lone T20 game," Afridi told.
