Bangladesh all-rounder, Shakib Al-Hasan has sustained a thigh injury ahead of the 2016 Asia Cup T20 Final against India on Sunday. This comes as a huge blow to Bangladesh as they would have hoped to win their tournament in what is just their third appearance in a final.

Shakib suffered a ‘left hip-flex injury’ during a training session ahead of the final on Friday. The all-rounder was hit by a ball in his left thigh area was seen limping and seemed to be in pain. Shakib was not able to train on Saturday as he still seemed to be in pain.

Bangladesh management will be in a fix as to whether to play their vice-captain in the final against India or not. Shakib is an integral part of the team as he is equally important with both bat and ball.

With Bangladesh having to play the World T20 Qualifiers on March 9 against the Netherlands at Dharamsala, it will be a difficult decision for the Bangladesh think-tank on whether they should risk their star player.

The Bangladesh team physio, however, was positive about the state of the 28-year-old and talked about the possibility of Shakib making the playing XI against India.

“Shakib has sustained a hip-flex injury after being hit by a delivery during yesterday's net session. These injuries in common language can be termed as thigh-muscle injury. These are known as 'conditional injuries', which normally heals in 48 hours.

“Today during option practice, he felt the pain again and didn't practice much. But we are hoping that he will play tomorrow,” Bayjedul Islam, the physio said.

With Shakib in pain, it might seem like the all-rounder will be provided with pain-killers to ease his distress. However, the physio did reveal that pain-killers need not affect every player in a positive manner.

“Medication can be taken but it may or may not work for a particular individual. Let us hope and pray that he will be okay without any need for medication,” Islam said.
