After being handed out a six-month ban by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) for disciplinary issues, Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has taken to Twitter to break his silence.

The 27-year-old’s feud with the national coach Chandika Hathurusingha regarding his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) commitments elicited him the ban. Reacting to his disciplinary action, Shakib tweeted on the day of Ramadan that he is “truly overwhelmed by all the love and support I have received from you in the past and even more so now”.

He added: “In this moment of truth, please know from the very bottom of my heart that I am who I am because of your undying love and support.”

Another Tweet read: “And the colours of our flag. I play every moment keeping this love and emotion with me. My country means more than anything else to me”

Shakib is the leading run-scorer and also the leading wicket-taker for Bangladesh across all formats the game.

I intend to fight for my country and my fellow countrymen at every opportunity I always get,” another tweet from the micro-blogging site read.

“Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I always do for you...Love you all, -Shakib,” the man with 337 international wickets and 6865 runs for his country concluded.

In addition to the ban, Shakib will not be given a No Objection Certificate (NOC) till the end of 2015, as well, thereby stopping him from being a part of any of the domestic T20 competitions around the world. Kolkata Knight Riders are the most likely to be most affected by the ban, as the 2014 IPL champions will miss a key player for the Champions Trophy T20 campaign that is about to be held in India later this year.
