Legendary Pakistani fast bowler, Waqar Younis had stepped down from the role of his national cricket team's head coach last Monday following a string of disappointing results. The 'Men in Green’ fared poorly in the Asia Cup as well as the ICC World T20 2016, having being ousted from both the tournaments in their respective first rounds.

Waqar was re-appointed as the head coach of Pakistan in May 2014 after his initial stint at the same position from February 2010 to August 2011. And to be honest, it wasn't much of a different story this time around either.

The Pakistani side slumped to a couple of defeats against its arch rival, India, and Bangladesh at the group stage of the Asia Cup. They finished third in the group and couldn't qualify for the final match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Shahid Afridi's men made a promising start at the ICC T20 World Cup in India after defeating the Bangladeshi Tigers by a massive margin of 55 runs in their opening match. However, after their first match of the tournament, the side lost three consecutive matches against India, New Zealand, and Australia to crash out of the coveted competition.

Following Pakistan's ICC World T20 exit, both their captain, Shahid Afridi and coach, Waqar Younis resigned from their respective posts citing a number of reasons as the causes behind their individual decisions.

However, following their head coach's resignation last Monday, a group of Pakistani cricketers has expressed its gratitude towards Waqar Younis on Twitter.
