England didn't have a great record against South Africa in T20Is, having lost seven times in 11matches. However, what transpired at the Wankhede today was a confident assault by the English batsman, as 459 runs were scored in the match.
South Africa, having been put into bat, might have made England rethink the decision to bowl first as fifties from Quinton de Kock, HashimAmla and JP Duminy helped the Proteas post a total of 229 in 20 overs. The bowlers had nothing to cheer about as the pitch did not offer anything.
In reply, England started off in the best possible manner as they scored 89 runs in the powerplay to set the foundation for what turned out to be the best chase in World T20 history. Joe Root scored a 44-ball 83 to ensure that England chased down the target with two balls to spare.

1 – Quinton de Kock's 24-ball 52 was his first fifty in T20Is. De Kock was out 6 times in the 40s in T20Is before he scored a fifty.
2 – This is only the second time that a team has three players (Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock, JP Duminy) scoring 50-plus in a T20I innings. The only other time this happened was for India in 2007 when Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir and Yuvraj Singh scored fifties against England.
4 – Number of dot balls that Joe Root faced in his 44-ball innings.
13.39 – The run-rate that the opening partnership of 96 between Hashim Amla and Quinton de Kock. This is the sixth-highest for a 50-plus stand for the first wicket in T20Is.
17 – The number of balls that England took to reach fifty against South Africa. The fastest team fifty is by New Zealand when they scored it in 16 balls against Scotland in 2009.
21 – The number of runs that Kagiso Rabada conceded in the first over of the England batting innings. It was the joint-second most expensive over in T20I history. The most expensive was 24 runs, conceded by Kemar Roach against Australia in 2010.
21 – Number of balls that Quinton de Kock took to reach his half-century. This is the joint-highest, along with AB de Villiers, for South Africa in T20Is.
23 – The number of balls that South Africa took to score their 50. This was the Proteas’ fastest team fifty in T20Is. The previous fastest was in just 24 balls.
32 – The number of innings that Faf du Plessis took to reach 1000 T20I runs. Kevin Pietersen and Alex Hales are the other two batsmen who have scored it in 32 innings. Only Virat Kohli, in 27 innings, scored it in lesser runs.
48 – The number of balls that South Africa took to reach a score of 100. This is the joint-second fastest team hundred in World T20s. Netherlands, in 42 balls, scored the fastest team hundred against Ireland in 2014.
83 – The number of runs that South Africa scored in the first six overs of the match. This is the joint-third highest in World T20s and the joint-fifth highest in T20Is.
89 – The number of runs that England scored in the batting powerplay. This is the third-highest number of runs scored in T20Is.
172 – The number of combined runs that were scored in both the batting powerplays. This is the second-highest ever scored in a T20 match, only one run behind the highest of 173 that was being scored between Tasmania and New South Wales in 2009.
200+ – South Africa has the highest number of 200-plus totals in T20Is (9) and World T20s (3).
224 – The number of runs that Hashim Amla scored before getting out in T20Is. Before scoring 58 in this match, Amla had scored 69* and 97* in the previous two T20Is. Martin Guptill, with 216 runs, was the person with the highest runs between dismissals before this.
229 – South Africa's total is the sixth-highest score in T20I history. South Africa have four of the top ten T20I scores.
230 – England's total to chase down South Africa's 229 was the best ever chase in World T20 history. It is also the second best chase in T20I history. This was also the highest chase in T20Is in India.
288 – Number of runs scored in total via boundaries in the match. This is the third highest in any T20I match.
459 – The number of runs that were scored in the match between England (230) and South Africa (229). This is the second highest number of aggregate runs scored in T20I history.
667 – The number of runs that South Africa has scored at the Wankhede Stadium. The Proteas scored these runs in just 70 overs, 438 in 50 overs against India in October 2015 and 229 in 20 overs in the match against England.
