ICC may be imposing fines on players involved in sledging on the cricket field but according to the Former Formula One driver Mark Webber, there should be more words spoken on the ground. The Australian racing star has said that the Australian cricket team should indulge in more verbal battle to dismantle England and win the Ashes back.

“My opinion on the sledging is the more the better. I want to see plenty of it. It’s a brilliant part of the sport,” – Mark Webber said to a blog in an interview.

In fact according to him, the sledging nowadays is nothing compared to that of the 80s and said that he enjoyed the verbal battles on the cricket field.

David Warner describing the English performers as ‘poor’ and ‘weak’, or Michael Clarke telling Anderson his arm would be broken is all tiddlywinks compared to the 80s. You have to remember these guys aren’t young boys, they’re grown men. I love a bit of verbal, it’s a long day out in the field, they’ve got to talk to someone!”

Webber, who played cricket with the wicket keeper Brad Haddin at school, said that the Australian crowd has played their part in helping the team and he said that he warned, Stuart Broad earlier that if the crowd gets nasty, England’s performance might suffer quite a bit.

“I actually had a chat with Stuart Broad at the British Grand Prix this year and I told him that if the crowd get involved and the English let them get on top, it might seriously hamper their performance, and that’s exactly what’s happened. It’s not the nicest place to visit if you’re on your heels.”
