Sourav Ganguly replaces Anil Kumble as BCCI Technical Committee chief

Ganguly is also the current Bengal cricket President

Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Sourav Ganguly has been given a bigger role within BCCI’s hieararchy, replacing Anil Kumble as the technical committee Chairman. The change was announced, during BCCI’s ongoing AGM in Mumbai, which has already sprung several surprises.

According to a senior BCCI official, Kumble’s poor performance during the South Africa T-20 and ODI series, is the reason for his oust. The official told Sportskeeda, “The Board, especially Shashank Manohar was disappointed with Kumble’s performance. Hence, after coming to a consensus, it was decided that someone with administrative capabilities as well as playing one will be instated. It was an obvious choice for most people.”

Kumble served as technical head for close to a year.

Conflict of interest seems to be the bigges agenda in the AGM today. Ravi Shastri has been removed from the governing council, and Roger Binny is no longer the Chief selector down South. Binny’s son Stuart’s presence within the national cricket setup, acted as a conflict of interest within the region. Rajeev Shukla was retained as IPL Chairman, despite major complaints of corruption, during his tenure.

The advisory committee consisting of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman could also be scrapped, due to their affiliations with various IPL franchises. With Ganguly assuming such a big role, it’s only a matter of time, before the committee resolves.
