Continuing from where they left off in the UAE, South Africa defeated Pakistan by four runs – via the Duckworth-Lewis method – to clinch the first T20 in the series at The New Wanderers in Johannesburg.

Pakistan were 60/2 when the rain came pouring down, and there was no play possible after that.

Earlier on, South Africa could only manage a modest 153 despite getting off to a flying start. Opening the batting, Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla got the hosts off to a blazing start, scoring 69 in just 7 overs.

Pakistani spinners Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid Afridi put the breaks on in the middle of the innings as the South African middle-order found the going get hard. The duo picked up three wickets with the Saffers adding just 15 runs in three overs after the fall of Amla.

David Miller, late on, hit a couple of boundaries to drag South Africa’s score pats 150.

Summary

South Africa: 153/7, 20 overs [Quinton de Kock 43 (33), Junaid Khan (2/24)]

Pakistan: 60/2, 9.1 overs [Nasir Jamshed 18 (25), JP Duminy (1/3)]

South Africa win by 4 runs (D/L method)
