Perth Scorchers crowned as BBL03 champions

OVERALL

  • It was third time lucky for Perth Scorchers, who had been to two previous BBL finals and lost both.
  • It was Hobart Hurricanes’ first appearance in the final of BBL.
  • Melbourne Stars finished the tournament with most wins (8) but, still, were knocked out in the semi-finals by Perth Scorchers.
  • Sydney Thunder broke their duck and won for the first time in BBL in over two years.
  • There were a total of 1119 boundaries hit in BBL03
  • A total of 801 fours and 318 sixes were hit in this year’s BBL.
  • The highest team total in BBL03 was 210, a feat achieved by both Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades.
  • Hobart Hurricanes managed the highest successful run chase in this year’s BBL as they chased down Brisbane Heat’s total of 209 in 19.2 overs
  • A total of 419 runs were scored in the game between Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes on 28 December 2013, the most in BBL03.
  • The 77-run defeat of Sydney Sixers in the hands of Melbourne Stars was the biggest margin of victory in BBL03.
  • The 200-run mark was reached on 7 different occasions, with both Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes reaching that mark on two occasions each.

BATTING

  • With 395 runs, Ben Dunk (Hobart Hurricanes) finished as the leading run scorer in this year’s BBL
  • Craig Simmons (Perth Scorchers), with two centuries, was the only player to score a century in this year’s BBL.
  • Craig Simmons, with his 112(58) against Sydney Sixers in the semi-final, also holds the record for the highest score this year.
  • With 3 fifties each, the record for the most fifties is tied between Aaron Finch (Melbourne Renegades), Brad Hodge (Melbourne Stars), Mike Hussey (Sydney Thunder) and Ben Dunk.
  • Simon Katich (Perth Scorchers) was the only player to have played all 10 innings and finish without a duck.
  • Ben Dunk and Travis Birt (both Hobart Hurricanes) both played all 10 matches without a duck, but they only batted on 9 occasions.
  • Aaron Finch scored 262 runs at an average of 52.40 to top the list of best averages. (min 5 innings played)
  • Scoring at 198.61, Glen Maxwell has the deadliest strike rate for a batsman who faced a minimum of 50 balls
  • Ben Dunk and Luke Wright (Melbourne Stars) shared the honors for the most boundaries as they both managed 48 in nine innings.
  • Craig Simmons hit the most sixes in the tournament, as he finished with 21 in just seven matches.
  • With 36 fours in just nine matches, Luke Wright hit the most fours in this year’s BBL.
  • Ashton Turner (Perth Scorchers) and David Hussey (Melbourne Stars) finished with most not-outs in the tournament (4).
  • Brett Lee has the dubious record of finishing with the most ducks in the tournament.
  • Simon Katich and Sam Whiteman’s (both Perth Scorchers) third-wicket stand of 129 runs against Sydney Sixers was the highest partnership in BBL03.
  • There were six 100-run partnerships in BBL03.

BOWLING

  • Cameron Gannon (Brisbane Heat) finished as the leading wicket-taker with 18 scalps in just eight games.
  • Cameron Gannon’s figures of four wickets for just 10 runs against Sydney Thunder was the best bowling figures in this year’s BBL.
  • Cameron Gannon finished with the best average (11.94) for any bowler in the tournament (min 50 runs conceded)
  • Cameron Gannon had the best strike rate of any bowler, taking a wicket every 8.7 balls (min 15 overs)
  • Muttiah Muralitharan (Melbourne Renegades) was the most economical bowler with an economy rate of just 5.41 ( min 15 overs)
  • Cameron Gannon was the only bowler to take four wickets in an innings on more than one occasion in BBL03. He managed that feat twice, against Synder Thunder and Sydney Sixers.

FIELDING

  • Daniel Smith (Sydney Sixers) effected the most dismissals in BBL03 (12).
  • Daniel Smith also had the most catches for any player, with 8.
  • Chris Lynn (Brisbane Heat), Travis Birt (Hobart Hurricanes), Michael Neser (Adelaide Strikers) and Adam Voges (Perth Scorchers) hold the record for most catches in an innings (3).
