Stats: Batsmen scoring 300+ runs in most number of bilateral ODI series

Dravid had scored 300 plus runs in four series

After the ICC World Cup 2015 in New Zealand’s tour to England, Kane Williamson scored nearly 400 runs in the five-match ODI series. It was his third bilateral ODI series where he smashed over 300 runs. Last year he scored more than 300 runs in two different bilateral ODI series - against India in New Zealand and against Pakistan in UAE.

Scoring 300+ runs in three or more bilateral ODI series is quite a remarkable achievement as only six batsmen have done the same in their career. And Williamson has done it very early in his career.

Apart from Williamson, four others have scored 300+ runs in three bilateral ODI series. But the leader here is Rahul Dravid who had four such high scoring series.

Dravid scored 309 against New Zealand in New Zealand in 1999, 300 runs against West Indies in India in 2002, 308 runs against Pakistan in India in 2005 and 312 runs against Sri Lanka in India in 2005. He is the only batsman to score more than 300 runs in four different bilateral ODI series.

Apart from Williamson, others who scored more than 300 runs in three different bilateral series are Desmond Haynes, Hashim Amla, Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan. Haynes and Sangakkara have retired whereas Amla and Dilshan are still playing and may emulate Dravid’s feat. The table below lists these five batsmen with the details.

• Amla is the only batsman to score more than 400 runs in two different bilateral ODI Series. 12 others did it once in their career.

• Among the players in the list above only Inzamam-ul-Haq, Jacques Kallis, Mohammad Yousuf, and Nathan Astle are retired cricketers while others are still active and may get their name included in the above tables.

In Tests, Donald Bradman and Brian Lara scored more than 500 runs in seven different series which is the most by a batsman. They are followed by Garry Sobers, Sunil Gavaskar and Ricky Ponting who scored 500+ in six series.Donald Bradman played 11 test series which were all of four or five matches. His aggregates in the seven series were: 974, 810, 806, 758, 715, 680, 508, 468, 447, 434 and 396.

In the upcoming series between India and South Africa, four players from above tables will be featuring - Amla, AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Amla has scored 300+ in three series while the other three have done it twice. There will be five matches in the series 300+ is quite easy for these batsmen with their form and caliber.
