Stats: Batsmen who are stumped most number of times in Test matches

West Indian middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul, when he was stumped for 25 on the final day of the series decider against New Zealand at Kensington Oval, became the player to have batted in the most number of Test innings before being dismissed stumped.

The 39-year-old had batted for 265 innings before being out finally stumped in his 266th off the bowling of off-spinner Mark Craig. When you look at the other extreme – the players who have been a victim of that mode of dismissal the most number of times - Australia’s Allan Border is at the top with 9 such dismissals.

The most interesting fact, though, is 6 of the top 8 belong to Australia. One each from West Indies and England complete the list, and, predictably, there is not much of an Asian flavour here. But, surprisingly, 3 Pakistani batsmen find themselves in top 15: Asif Iqbal, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Yousuf, each 6 times.

Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan and India’s Anil Kumble are the other Asians in the top 15, but they aren’t specialists with the bat to read more into it.
