Stats: Double centuries in Tests batting at number 7 and lower

The game of Test cricket has witnessed many incredible and memorable double centuries. Almost all of those double tons would have come from the top order batsmen and the lower order would have only played second fiddle to those knocks.

The wicket-keeper batsmen Naman Ojha when batting for India A against Australia A scored a magnificent 219 (not out) at No.7 in his 100th first class match today. This is no mean feat. In fact, it is a rare incident considering that only 6 batsmen have scored a double ton, batting at no.7 and below in Test matches.

Former Australian cricket Jack Ryder was the first man to achieve the feat in 1925 to help his side to a narrow 11 run win against England. Coming in at 118 for 5, his 201* lifted the struggling team to post 489 against England.

Out of the 6 persons who achieved the same, 3 belong to Australia and 2 are from Pakistan. Interestingly, Bradman, Wasim Akram and Atkinson were the captain of their sides and Imtiaz Ahmed and Gilchrist were wicket-keepers when they accomplished this record. The Pakistan pair are the only two cricketers to score 200+ at No.8

Gilchrist was the last man to enter the this list when he scored 204* against South Africa at the New Wanderers.
