Stats: Highest T20 individual scores for a losing cause

Wirddhiman Saha’s 115* is the 6h highest individual score for a losing cause in T20s

The IPL 7 final last night witnessed a magnificent hundred from the unsung wicket-keeper batsman from the Kings XI Punjab, Wriddhiman Saha. However, Saha ended up on the losing side despite registering the first hundred in an IPL final, courtesy an attacking 94 from local lad Manish Pandey. Living under the shadows of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Saha is another one of the international class who is unfortunate to be spending his prime days on the domestic circuit.

It is no doubt that losing a final after a consistent season itself will be a major disappointment. But to lose after you made a historic hundred is a much more difficult pill to swallow.

Here we list the top 10 scores in the shortest format of the game when the century makers’ team doesn’t manage to win on the night.

There are 3 scores of the West Indian power house – Chris Gayle in top 10 and he is the only player to have scored more than 2 hundreds for a losing cause. The Jamaican left-hander has a total of 4 T20 centuries when his team didn’t cross the finishing line. That’s one record yet to be broken!

Cameron White has the highest T20 score of 141* against Worcestershire when a blistering 97 from Graeme Hick – similiar to Manish Pandey’s effort in IPL final, ruined the show of the Australian batsman. Interestingly, Zaheer Khan was part of the Worcs side, making a crucial run-a-ball 10, chasing 199 to go with a wicket at the top.
