Stats: India vs South Africa, Delhi Test Day 5 - India's Long Walk to Freedom Trophy's Finale

1928- The last time a pace bowler returned with better economy than Umesh Yadav’s 0.42 in this innings (min 10 overs). Bob Wyatt bowled 13 overs in a match against South Africa at Durban and gave away only 4 runs at 0.30 rpo. Umesh Yadav bowled 21 overs and conceded 9 runs.

16- Number of maiden overs bowled by Umesh Yadav off 21 overs – jointly the 2nd most maiden 6-ball overs for a pace bowler in Test (max. 25 overs). Fazal Mehmood bowled 19 maiden overs from his spell of exact 25 overs against India in 1955.

33- Number of maiden overs bowled by Ravindra Jadeja off 46 Overs – easily the most maiden overs for any bowler in Test History (max. 50 overs). The previous highest had been 31 for Barlow and Mortimore from 47.1 and 48 overs respectively.

1911- The last time South Africa lost a test match by a margin of more than 337 runs. Today was their 2nd biggest defeat by runs in Test cricket. They lost a game against Australia by 530 runs which is the biggest defeat for them in Test cricket.

1- Number of instances before today’s game when India had won a Test match by a margin of more than 300 runs. This is their 2nd such win. On the other hand, South Africa has now lost a Test match by a margin in excess of 300 four times.

143- South Africa’s total in this innings after batting 143.1 overs which is the lowest in the history of Test Cricket for any team (min 110 overs). The previous lowest had been 159-8 in 111 overs, which also belongs to South Africa and came against Sri Lanka in a drawn game last year at Colombo. It was also the 4th innings of the game.

3- Instances when South Africa could not win a single Test match in a Test series of 3 or more matches since 1960. Previous both occasions have come against Australia.

4- Number of instances now for India when they have won at least 3 matches in a Test series without losing a single match. Last time, they defeated Australia by 4-0 in the Border-Gavaskar Series 2012/13.

87 - Wickets taken by spinners in this series which is the most for spinners in a Test series of 4 matches. With 92 Wickets, Border-Gavaskar Series in India in 2012 has the most wickets for spinners.

31- Wickets taken by Ravichandran Ashwin in this series – the most he has taken in a Test series in his career. His best had been 29 wickets which he took against Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2012/13. In that series, he bowled in 8 innings while, in this series, he bowled in only 7 innings.

1- Number of Indian spinners to have taken more than Ashwin’s 31 wickets in a Test series of 4 or fewer matches. Harbhajan Singh took 32 wickets in 3 matches of Border-Gavaskar series 2000/01.

23- Wickets taken by Ravindra Jadeja in this series – the 2nd most he has taken in a single Test series. His best was 24 wickets, which he took against Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2012/13. In that series, he also bowled in 8 innings while in this series, he has bowled in 7 innings.

10.82- Ravindra Jadeja's economy in this year- easily the best among all bowlers this year (min 10 wickets). Amit Mishra (15.72) and Ashwin (17.20) are next on the list.

7- Number of Five-Fors taken by Ashwin in 2015- it is the most by any bowler in this year. No other bowler has managed even 4. It is also the most 5-wicket hauls taken by an Indian bowler in a calendar year. Ashwin has also taken 10 wickets in match on two occasions in 2015. Only one other bowler- Rangana Herath- has managed to take a 10-wicket haul in this year.

3- Number of Indian bowlers to take more wickets in a calendar year than Ashwin's 62 in 2015- Kapil Dev (twice), Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh (twice) are those Indian bowlers.
