Stats: Most catches in Test cricket

Mahela Jayawardene

When Mahela Jayawardene completed the catch to dismiss the England opening batsman Sam Robson off the bowling of fast bowler Dhammika Prasad in the second innings of the ongoing Test match at Headingley, Leeds, he overtook former Australian captain Ricky Ponting to become the player to have taken the third-highest number of catches in Test history.

With 197 catches to his name and at least a year of Test cricket left for him before the 37-year-old calls it a day, he could end up as the player with the most number of catches in the history of Test cricket, breaking Indian cricketing legend Rahul Dravid’s record of 210 catches. It is also interesting to note that the other 9 players in the list have retired.
