Stats: New Zealand vs Sri Lanka, Dunedin Test Day 2 - Sri Lanka's opening woes in 2015

Dimuth Karunaratne is the higest scoring Sri Lankan opener in New Zealand

Eighties from Dimuth Karunaratne and Dinesh Chandimal helped Sri Lanka reduce the deficit almost by half after New Zealand scored 431 on day two of the first Test at Dunedin.

Chandimal remained unbeaten on 83 at the end of the day as Sri Lanka finished on 197/4.

Here are the statistical highlights from day two.

1 – Number of fifty plus opening stand for Sri Lanka in 2015- 2nd fewest for any team this year after West Indies, who are yet to score their first. Sri Lanka's opening average of 19.05 is also 2nd worst after West indies' 15.23 (for this year).

4 – Number of times Nuwan Pradeep has taken four wickets in a Test innings- he has never taken a five-for in 31 test innings. He has now taken five wickets for 62, 63, 112 and 123 runs apiece.

47 – Doug Bracewell fell three short of his maiden Test fifty, but registered his highest Test score. Bracewell’s 47 went past his previous-best of 43, which he scored against India in Bangalore in 2012.

92 – Fours struck by Chandimal in Tests this year- which are also the most by any Asian player in this year. His 6 fifty plus scores in this year are only second to Misbah ul Haq's 7 such scores.

100 – BJ Watling who finished with four catches on day two, went past 100 Test dismissals when he caught Kusal Mendis off Trent Boult.

180 – The difference between runs scored on first day and second day of this Test. On first day 409 runs were scored at 4.54 while second day saw only 219 runs coming at 2.51.

269 – Runs Karunaratne has scored in New Zealand in Tests as opener- which are surprisingly the most for a Sri Lankan opener. He has taken 5 innings to score these runs and go past Santh Jayasuria' 196 runs in 12 innings. His average of 53.80 is also the best for a Sri Lankan opener in New Zealand.

792 – Runs Dinesh Chandimal has scored in Tests this year- most among all Asian players in 2015. He was 80 runs behind Younis Khan's 789 and went past him in his 83* today.

2006 – Dec 2006 was the last time when a Sri Lankan bowler, other than Nuwan Pradeep, took 4 or more wickets in New Zealand. Since 2006, Nuwan Pradeep has done it twice- once at the start of the year when he got 4-63 and second time today when he bagged 4-112.
