Stats: Oldest living Test cricketers in the world

Norman Gordon, former South African fast bowler

Norman Gordon, the South African fast bowler is the oldest living Test cricketer at the moment and the only one to be living beyond the magical 100 year mark. He played 5 Test matches for the Proteas before the Second World War and was too old to be selected for the side when the war ended.

In one of the Tests, he bowled a total of 92.2 eight-ball overs for a lone wicket, conceding 256 runs. Those were the days where the transition was being made from matting to turf wickets. He took 20 wickets in his career with a best performance of 5 for 103 in an innings.

The right-handed Gordon is also the first cricketer ever to live 100 years and the only man to be still living from the days of Timeless Tests.

Lindsay Tuckett, also a former South African international, occupies the second place. The rainbow nation has two more cricketers in top 10. England and West Indies have three and two players respectively. Arthur Morris, the former left-handed batsman, who once played alongside Don Bradman is the only Australian in top 10.

Out of these 10, only Arthur Morris and John Watkins of South Africa has played more than 10 Test matches. Morris, a left-handed batsmen, has played 46 Test matches, scoring 3533 runs at an average of 46.48. He also has a double hundred to his name.

The top 10 list is dominated by bowlers and all-rounders. Andy Ganteaume of Trinidad – West Indies, is the only wicket-keeper in top 10. The oldest surviving Indian cricketer is Deepak Shodhan, who played 3 Tests in 1952-53, and at 85 years of age, is ranked 30th in this list.
