Catches win matches is what proved many times in cricket history and when it comes to World Cup, you are not allowed to leave any of the catches you get if you really crave for World Cup. And this list here shows the best fielders who made great efforts in catching such catches which brought them victories. Here is a list of Most Catches in World Cup history since its inception in 1975.

Australia’s two-time World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting, who is known as one the best fielders in the world leads the list of players to have taken the most number of catches in World Cup cricket. The Tasmanian has taken 46 catches in 28 games since making his debut at the mega event in 1996.

Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya is in second place with 18 catches in 38 matches. New Zealand all-rounder Chris Cairns is in third place with 16 catches in 28 games and he is tied on the same number with Pakistan’s Inzamam Ul-Haq and West Indies’s Brian Lara.

Graeme Smith comes in next with 15 catches and he shares the number 5 spot with Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene. Indian leg-spinning great Anil Kumble is joined by Australia’s 1999 World Cup-winning captain Steve Waugh at 7th position and Sri Lankan batsman Aravinda de Silva with 14 catches in World Cup.
