Sri Lanka captured their maiden World T20 crown by defeating India by 6 wickets in the final with 13 balls to spare. Virat Kohli was named the Player of the tournament, whilst Kumar Sangakkara walked away with the Man of the Match award in his final T20 International.

Here is a look at this edition of World T20 in numbers.

OVERALL

  • It was third time lucky for Sri Lanka, as they won the World T20 after having lost in the final to West Indies (2012) and Pakistan (2009).
  • India made their first final appearance since their win in the opening edition in 2007.
  • Sri Lanka and India both finished the tournament with most wins (5), but it was the Lankans who had the last laugh as they won the final.
  • There were a total of 1139 boundaries hit in the tournament.
  • A total of 846 fours and 293 sixes were hit in this year’s World T20.
  • No team was able to breach the magical 200-run mark in the tournament.
  • The highest team total was 196, a feat achieved by South Africa against England on 29th March 2014.
  • Netherlands and England managed the highest successful run chases in the tournament, with both chasing down 189. Netherlands chased down Ireland’s total of 189 in just 13.5 overs, whilst England did it in 19.2 overs.
  • A total of 389 runs were scored in the game between South Africa and England on 29 March 2014, the most in this year’s tournament.
  • West Indies’ 84-run defeat of Pakistan was the biggest margin of victory.

BATTING

  • With 319 runs, Virat Kohli finished as the leading run scorer in this year’s World T20.
  • Alex Hales’ 116*(64) against Sri Lanka in the group stage was the highest score by any player this year.
  • Alex Hales and Ahmed Shehzad were the only two players to score a century in this year’s World T20.
  • Virat Kohli finished with the most fifties (4) in the tournament.
  • Virat Kohli scored 319 runs at an average of 106.33 to top the list of best averages. (min 4 innings played)
  • Scoring at a phenomenal 224.44, Darren Sammy had the deadliest strike rate of any batsman who faced at least 40 balls.
  • Stephan Myburg finished with the most boundaries as he managed 39 in his seven innings.
  • Stephan Myburg also hit the most sixes (13) and most fours (26) in the tournament.
  • Darren Sammy finished with most not-outs in the tournament (4).
  • Irfan Ahmed and Tanwir Afzal (HK), Ziaur Rahman (Ban), Dwayne Bravo and Stephan Myburg were stuck with the dubious record of finishing with the most ducks in the tournament (2).
  • Alex Hales and Eoin Morgan’s third-wicket stand of 152 runs against Sri Lanka was the highest partnership in World T20 2014.
  • There were seven 100-run partnerships in the tournament.

BOWLING

  • Imran Tahir and Ahsan Malik finished joint-top in the wicket taking charts as they both finished with 12 scalps.
  • Rangana Herath’s figures of 3/5 against New Zealand was the best bowling figures of the tournament.
  • Rangana Herath finished with the best average (8.83) of any bowler in the tournament (min 50 runs conceded).
  • Imran Tahir had the best strike rate of any bowler, taking a wicket every 10 balls (min 10 overs).
  • Sunil Narine was the most economical bowler with an economy rate of just 4.60 ( min 10 overs).
  • Nuwan Kulasekara finished with most maiden overs (3) in the tournament.
  • Ravichandran Ashwin finished with the most dot balls (74) in this year’s World T20.
  • 9 bowlers managed to take four wickets in an innings in the tournament, but only Rangana Herath and Ahsan Malik managed five-wicket hauls.
  • At 150.15, Dale Steyn bowled the fastest ball of the tournament.

FIELDING

  • Quinton de Kock effected 8 dismissals in tournament, the most of any keeper.
  • Dwayne Bravo finished with the most catches for any player, with 7.
  • Denesh Ramdin’s 4 dismissals (all stumpings) against Pakistan was the most dismissals in a single innings.
  • Suresh Raina, Dwayne Bravo and David Miller hold the record for most catches in an innings (3).
