Video: India's World Cup 2011 campaign || The 28-year wait

3 years back, on this very day, Indian cricket team created history by winning the 50-over World Cup under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. After doing so for the first time in 1983, India had to wait for 28-long years to repeat the feat, a painful wait at that: not just for us but for Sachin Tendulkar, as well.

Zaheer Khan was at the peak of his powers, chipping in valuable spells with the old ball to solve India’s never-ending woes at the death. Yuvraj Singh delivered, both with the bat and the ball. Suresh Raina’s knocks against Australia and Pakistan were as crucial to the triumph as MS Dhoni’s and Gautam Gambhir’s knocks in the finals. Munaf Patel did his part admirably well, but has gone down since then. Virat Kohli showed glimpses of what was to follow. Virender Sehwag’s annihilation of Umar Gul in the semi-finals had a lasting effect that it made the pacer ineffective at the death, too, which helped our lower-middle order to recover. Let us not forget Ashish Nehra’s terrific spell against Pakistan. Every single one had a role to play.

If you would ask me to pick up 3 crucial wickets that did the trick, it would be that of Michael Hussey, Umar Akmal and Shane Watson. I say so not just for the names and the moments in which they came, but for the way in which they came, as well: quality batsmen outfoxed with ease.

Here is a video that could give you goosebumps. After all, what better day than today to watch it!
