Video: Kieron Pollard hits 6 sixes in an over in a practice match

West Indies big hitter Kieron Pollard hit six sixes in an over during an Adelaide Strikers warm-up game at Prince Alfred College, Adelaide.

While Indian middle order batsman Yuvraj Singh, against England, and South African opener Herschelle Gibbs, against Netherlands, have achieved the feat in international cricket, former West Indies great Sir Garry Sobers and Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri have done the same in first-class cricket. This feat of Pollard has come in a less significant match, but you don’t often see a batsman hitting six sixes at any level.

Veteran Australian T20 batsman Brad Hodge, who was at the other end, when Pollard went berserk believes that one of those sixes is the biggest he has seen in a very long time. Hodge said: “It’s the biggest hit I’ve seen in a long time and I don’t even reckon he got all of it.

“It’s pretty scary stuff. He just said: ‘I’ve had enough,’ and thought: ‘I’ll try and hit a few here.’ When you sit at the other end, you just think how unbelievable that is, just the strength of the man, the skill of the human being. It’s good he’s come here in good form and a scary thought for any other player. It was cool fun watching, the ease he does it with is unbelievable.”

The 2014-15 Big Bash League kicks off on Thursday, with Strikers facing Melbourne Stars at their home

Couple of years back, in 2012, Pollard came very close to doing the same on a much bigger stage, but fell one short: representing Trinidad and Tobago in a Twenty20 fixture, he hit 5 sixes in an over (6 6 6 6 0 6) during his Man-of-the-Match effort – a 15-ball 56 – that took the team to a score of 211 in 20 overs.
