Video: Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid's world record partnership in ODIs

Sachin Tendulkar – Rahul Dravid

On this day in 1999, Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid stitched together the highest partnership for any wicket in One Day International cricket history, against New Zealand, which stands even today despite the batsman enjoying a fair bit of advantage in rules and regulations, of late. Notably, only one more partnership of above 300 has been registered in ODI cricket since then.

The pair joined hands after Sourav Ganguly was run out with just 10 runs on the board in the 2nd ODI of the series, at Hyderabad. For the next 277 balls, not a single wicket fell and 331 runs were scored. It was absolute dominance by the two Indian batsmen who feasted on the likes of Chirs Cairns, Scott Styris, Nathan Astle and Daniel Vettori. While Dravid amassed a run-a-ball 153 before falling, Tendulkar remained unbeaten and posted his then highest individual score of 186 off just 150 balls. The duo smashed a combined 35 fours and 5 sixes guiding India to a massive score of 376.

In reply, New Zealand could only manage 202. Watch the highlights of the partnership here:
