Ganguly famously waves in shirt in jubiliation as India beat England at Lords’

Recently retired Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag made a funny desciption of his former captain Sourav Ganguly’s famous shirt-waving celebration at Lords’ in the summer of 2002, and laughed that he had witnessed Dada’s six-pack abs for the first time.

The Nawab of Najafgarh also went to describe that the finals victory over England, after chasing 326, as the most special momemt he had seen at Lords’. He said that he would remember that win throughout his life.

The 37-year old former opener also lamented the fact that he missed out on scoring a century at the home of cricket, as he was dismissed for 84 in a Test against England early in 2002, because of which he expressed regret about his name not being on the Lords’ honour board.

Recalling the Natwest Series final, the explosive batsman felt how the team had believed that they could win, after England posted a mammoth 325 runs on the board. India had got off to good start, with openers Ganguly and Sehwag posting 100 runs in just 15 overs, before they lost a series of wickets in the middle.

It was then that Mohammed Kaif and Yuvraj Singh were involved in a crucial 121-run stand to push the visitors towards the finishing line. Kaif was aptly awarded the man of the match for his knock of 87.

The moment when Zaheer Khan hit the winning runs, Sourav Ganguly broke into jubiliation, took off his jersey and waved frantically. Sehwag recalled the funny side of the incident about how VVS Laxman and himself turned towards Dada, and remarked that they saw their skipper’s six-pack abs for the first time.

The Delhi dasher recounted how India had gone into the finals, on the back of 8 final defeats, and suggested the rare final win as a special moment and one which he would never forget.
