Vinod Kambli in trouble for allegedly abusing and locking up maid for three days

Vinod Kambli and his wife Andrea

An FIR has been registered against former India cricketer Vinod Kambli and his wife Andrea by their domestic help, who has alleged that the couple beat her up and locked her up in a room in their Mumbai residence, according to Times of India.

According to police sources, the woman called Soni has said that she had lived in the Kambli household for the last two years as an employee. Her wages had not been paid for the whole period, and she was imprisoned inside a room and beaten up when she had approached them to ask for her salary.

When she was let out, she was told never to come back. She headed to the police station immediately.

The case has been registered in the Bandra police station against Kambli and Andrea under IPC 342, 504, 506 and 34.

The 43-year-old Kambli has not appeared to present his version to the police. However, a different angle to the incident has been presented by what his wife has told the media:

Kambli, once more famous for holding the record for quickest 1000 Test runs by an Indian and being Sachin Tendulkar’s partner during a record-breaking stand for their school, has been in the news for the wrong reasons with far more consistency than what he managed with the bat.

It remains to be seen whether the maid Soni is to be vindicated or the Kambli family in this latest incident, but one can be sure his popularity – never really soaring – will take a sharp turn downwards.
