India’s star batsman Virat Kohli may be busy preparing for the 2016 World Twenty20, which kicked off with the qualifying round earlier today, but he did take time out to leave a special message on the occasion of International Women’s Day, tendering an apology on behalf of the men community.
Kohli seems to have shrugged his inconsistent run of form which plagued him of late in 2015 and is looking at his very best as seen by his performances in the recently concluded Asia Cup, which India won quite convincingly beating hosts Bangladesh in the final by eight wickets. He is known for his hard-hitting style on and off the pitch and today was no different as he made his views crystal clear.
Kohli, who is reported to have broken up with long-time girlfriend Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma earlier this year, took to his social media platforms viz Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to say ’sorry’ to women all over the world on behalf of all the people who have caused them harm in one way or the other – be it with eve teasing, stalking and worse.
The 26-year-old posted a picture of himself with his hands folded in an apologetic manner with the word ‘sorry’ highlighted in pink. Here’s the post Kohli put up on his Twitter account.
It’s certainly not the first time Kohli has expressed his love and concern for the opposite gender as he last month shared a picture of himself along with his mother, whom he described as “the most beautiful person in the world.”
Virat had also publically and vehemently backed his former girlfriend whenever the actress came in for unwanted criticism, whenever the cricketer failed to shine in a big match, most notably being the 2015 ICC World Cup semifinal against eventual champions Australia.
He may have many detractors, and not without reason either as his antics have time and again caused him trouble, but going by the history of things, he certainly looks an apt candidate to express his views on the subject of gender equality.
