Virender Sehwag might have played his last game for Delhi

The upcoming Indian domestic season might well prove to be a bizarre one for the fans. Yesterday, it was confirmed that Wasim Jaffer will no longer be playing for Mumbai, and today a report in ESPNCricinfo states that Indian great Virender Sehwag is seriously considering a move away from Delhi, whom he has been with right from the very start of his career.

Even though he scored 568 runs at an average of 51.63 from eight matches last season to finish as Delhi’s second highest run-getter, Sehwag reportedly feels that he will be better off moving away as he does not want to be holding up the progress of the younger players.

While Sehwag is still capable of playing the odd breathtaking innings, he has not been able to find the sort of consistency that is required at the top level and has found himself out of the Indian team for more than two years now. With the Nawab of Najafgarh turning 37 this October, we could have well seen the last of Sehwag in international cricket. If so, he can be immensely proud of his achievements, having amassed more than 8000 runs in both Test and ODI cricket for India.
