Pakistan Coach Waqar Younis resigns

Pakistan cricket team will have to look for another coach as the current coach Waqar Younis has resigned from the post. Waqar cited ‘personal reasons’ behind his resignation and clarified that he would remain with the team till the end of Pakistan’s tour of Zimbabwe this month. Waqar had the contract till 2012 but announced his resignation one year earlier.

In a press conference in Lahore, Waqar Younis said, “I have tendered my resignation to the Board last week and the tour to Zimbabwe will be my last”. He also cleared the air by saying, “I have no issues with anyone. I have taken this decision on personal grounds, including medical grounds”.

Waqar, a very successful fast bowler of his time, was made the coach of the controversy mired team of Pakistan in the March last year. Even during his reign as coach, he was entangled in several controversies. Recently his differences with former captain Shahid Afridi was in news. The spot fixing scandal also happened under Waqar Younis’ coaching period. The team also got reasonable success under his coaching. Pakistan ended up as a semi finalist in the last ODI World Cup and played inspiring cricket when almost all cricket pundits had expected an early ouster of Pakistan in the world cup.
