Kochi – West Indies beat India by 124 runs in the first ODI of the five-match series at the Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.

Chasing a massive target of 322, India were all out for 197 runs in 41 overs.

Shikhar Dhawan was the top scorer with 68 while Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 33.

This was India’s 2nd biggest margin of loss against West Indies, 9 runs less than their biggest loss, by 135 runs, against the Caribbean side which came in 2002 in Vijaywada.

At one stage, India were looking to lose by a much bigger margin, having lost their 9th wicket at 155. However, a 38-run partnership between Jadeja and Mohammad Shami (19) saved India from its biggest defeat against West Indies in ODIs.

Earlier, Marlon Samuels, on his comeback to the ODI squad, hit a scintillating hundred to post a more than competitive total for West Indies.
