Yasir Shah takes five-for but Sri Lanka still in the lead

Angelo Mathews held the Sri Lankan innings together after Shah’s attack

With a sturdy start on Day 1 of the 2nd Test in Colombo, Sri Lanka continued their domination, despite Yasir Shah’s attack, as batsmen Angelo Mathews and Kaushal Silva took charge.

Sangakkara and Silva came out to continue their innings and looked solid before Sangakkara gave away his wicket to Zulfiqar Babar after scoring 34 of 70 balls. Lahiru Thirimanne was next to the crease but was dismissed off Shah’s bowling after scoring just 7(39).

Skipper Angelo Mathews came in next and built a partnership of 72 runs along with Silva 80 (218) before the latter was run out by Sarfraz Ahmed. Mathews contributed 77 (153) to the scoreboard but fell victim to Shah’s bowling. Wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals, as Sri Lanka managed to score 304 for the loss of 9 wickets at stumps.

For Pakistan, Yasir Shah was the star yet again as he dismissed 5 Sri Lankan batsmen and gave away just 95 runs in his 40 overs. Mohammad Hafeez, Zulfiqar Babar and Junaid Khan took one wicket each.

At stumps, Sri Lanka had a lead of 166 runs with one wicket in hand.

Yasir took his 50th Test wicket in nine games and became the quickest Pakistani to do so.

Despite Yasir Shah taking consistent wickets, Sri Lanka took a hefty lead of 166 and were clear winners of the day.

Sri Lanka hope to win this match to level the series 1-1 and remain in the competition.
