Former Pakistan captain and Test veteran Younis Khan has decided to leave the on-going Pakistan Cup after he was fined 100 percent of his match fee for protesting against umpiring decisions. The 38-year old who was captaining the side Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) had been critical of some of the decisions after they lost to Islamabad in their first match.

Younis Khan had reportedly threatened the reserve umpire Rashid Riaz earlier to the raise their umpiring standards. Rashid had then complained to the match referee who forwarded a notice to Younis.

Younis scored a scintillating 61 off 59 balls in the first match and took his team total to 212. But they eventually lost to Islamabad in a close encounter with two balls remaining. Their next match against Punjab was also a closely contested affair but they eventually got over the line by 2 runs.

Younis had been unhappy with some of the decisions made in the match and criticised the umpires later. He has minced no words and called the standard of umpiring well below par, quitting the tournament in protest.

Younis' alleged misbehaviour which included questioning an umpiring decision, showing dissent and threatening an umpire made him guilty of breaching level 2 of the PCB domestic code of conduct.

The PCB level 2 breaches lead to an imposition of 50 to 100% of the match fee.

"In case where Match Fee is not payable, an appropriate amount (not less than double the amount of first offence) may be recommended for deduction from the Team's participation fee at District/city level. For department matches, the penalty will be recovered through the department," the code reads.

Younis was found to have breached the article 2.2.8 of the code, namely: "Using language or gesture(s) that is seriously obscene, seriously offensive or of a seriously insulting nature to another Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person during a Match."

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa manager Mukhtiar Hussain confirmed to DawnNews on Saturday that Ahmed Shehzad will be taking over the reins after Younis had walked out having allegedly slammed the 'substandard umpiring' in the tournament.

Shehzad will now lead the K-P side when they face Sindh in their next game at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad on Sunday. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, who have some good players with international experience in their ranks like Shehzad and Yasir Shah, will play two more games in the tournament before the final.

Meanwhile, twitter was abuzz with cricket fans trolling Younis Khan on his decision to quit half-way through the tournament.
